NORWALK, Conn. — Ty Pennington, national TV personality and home design expert, will headline a list of celebrities appearing at the 2011 National Hardware Show, to be held May 10-12 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Pennington, a spokesman for Sears Corp., will appear May 11 at 12:20 p.m. on the North American Retail Hardware Association stage, where he will present a toolbox full of Sears tools and gift cards to Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities and is the preferred charity of the National Hardware Show.

“We are very excited to have Ty Pennington, whose career is tied to both home improvement and charitable giving, make this presentation to Opportunity Village,” said Rich Russo, event director, National Hardware Show. “This organization helps thousands of people with disabilities learn vocational skills and live more fulfilling lives and is a worthy recipient of the Sears toolbox.”

Pennington, a New York Times bestselling author and host of the top-rated "Ty's Great British Adventure" for UKTV's Home Network, will also be hosting the upcoming Canadian design-competition reality series, "Inside the Box." In addition, he develops furniture and home products for the "Ty Pennington Style" line at Sears and is an ambassador for the Sears American Dream Campaign. He also recently launched a home furniture collection "Howard Miller Furnishings by Ty Pennington."

“We are so grateful to Ty Pennington, Sears and the folks at the National Hardware Show for all they do for the more than 1,600 adults with disabilities we serve in our various programs,” said Laura D’Amore, director of sales at Opportunity Village. “Their generous donation will help support the 15 adults with developmental disabilities who work in our Thrift Store every day, as well as serve the needs of disadvantaged families within our community. We will also be able to continue providing important vocational training and rehabilitation to adults with severe disabilities who would otherwise be unemployable.”

Also appearing at the 2011 National Hardware Show will be noted actor and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr., who will speak May 10 at 3 p.m. on behalf of Santerra Green, a premium environment-friendly composting toilet system made in North America by Sancor Industries Ltd.

In addition to recurring roles on TV shows like St. Elsewhere, Arrested Development and Six Feet Under, Begley has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and serves on the boards of organizations like the Thoreau Institute and the Midnight Mission. Currently, he is the co-star of the hit Planet Green series Living with Ed, a look at the day-to-day realities of “living green.”

Another familiar face Show attendees will see is that of Jack Youngblood, former NFL player for the Los Angeles Rams and an NFL Hall of Famer, who will be signing autographs and taking pictures with customers at the Prime Wire & Cable Booth (#2224) all three days of the show from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. He will also be giving away an NFL signed football each day.

Youngblood, an All-American from the University of Florida, played for the Los Angeles Rams for 14 seasons (1971-1984) and was the team’s perennial quarterback sack leader. An NFL Hall of Famer, Youngblood played in a team record 201 consecutive games; played in five NFC championship games and seven straight Pro Bowls; was All-Pro five times and All NFC seven times.

Also appearing at the 2011 event will be HGTV personality Lisa LaPorta, who will be promoting her new outdoor furniture line and cushion program done in partnership with Jordan Manufacturing. LaPorta will be at the Jordan Manufacturing booth (#12203) all three days of the Show.

Based in Los Angeles, LaPorta has appeared on several HGTV shows, including Designers' Challenge, Designing for the Sexes and Designed to Sell. She received her formal training in design from UCLA Department of Environmental Art and Design and has extensive experience managing projects of all types and sizes. Her website, www.lisalaporta.com, has design ideas, DIY projects and an “Ask Lisa” section.
