The Ritz-Carlton Dallas unveils new opportunity for meeting planners

DALLAS — The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas has introduced a unique opportunity for meeting planners and groups visiting the hotel.

The only experience of its kind, the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas Guest Guacamologist program allows one group attendee per day to participate as a guest chef during the hotel's celebrated Guacamologist ritual, presented at 6 p.m. each evening in the hotel Lobby Lounge.

Offering a festive farewell to the workday, the Guacamologist experience provides Lobby Lounge guests with a complimentary tasting of Chef Dean Fearing's specialty margaritas, accompanied by a fresh guacamole prepared by the hotel's Guacamologist and designated Guest Guacamologist.  The two Guacamologists work in tandem to create evening culinary magic, using Texas farm-to-market produce to hand-craft their own custom guacamole blend. The Guacamologist ritual is already very popular among the hotel's group guests, many of whose scheduled gatherings end just prior to 6 p.m.

Guest Guacamologist invitations may be requested by meeting planners either for their VIPs or for individual group members. The experience is offered on a complimentary basis and may be requested not only for meetings and events but also for site tours of the hotel. Details are available from the hotel sales team, with reservations accepted for dates beginning in June 2010.

Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort launches recycling program

Resort-wide cork recycling program launched June 1

Hyat logoINCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino, in partnership with ReCORK, has launched a new initiative to recycle thousands of its natural used wine corks.

Corks will be collected throughout the resort in an effort to help ReCORK in their recycling program. SOLE, a leading manufacturer of footwear products, blends the recycled corks into unique formulations used in the production of eco-friendly “flip” sandals and packaging. With the flips available for purchase at Tahoe Provisions, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe will be the first venue to function as both a ReCORK collection site for natural corks and a retailer of the SOLE flips.

Sponsored by Amorim of Portugal, the world’s largest producer of natural cork closures, and SOLE, the goal of ReCORK is to find reuse applications for as many corks as possible — and in the process, help communicate the value cork forests play as a sustainable natural resource that must be protected.

Beginning in June, ReCORK collection boxes will be stationed at Lone Eagle Grille and other resort venues, with the goal of collecting 30 pounds or more of corks. This new initiative is part of Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino’s ongoing green efforts and commitment to eco-friendly practices. [READ MORE]

GES selected for commitment to helping exhibitors maximize ROI

GES logoLAS VEGAS — GES, a leading provider of exhibition, event and retail marketing services announced that Produce Marketing Association has extended its long-term partnership for an additional five years.

The new agreement includes PMA’s annual Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition and PMA’s annual Foodservice Conference & Exposition.

“GES continues to be an important long-term partner in the success of our shows, and PMA is very pleased to extend our agreement for an additional five years,” said PMA Vice President, Meetings & Trade Shows, Kent Allaway. “The GES team’s commitment to successfully planning and executing a very challenging show, as well as the team’s dedication to working closely with us to maximize our exhibitors’ return on investment, is a winning combination.”

PMA’s expositions are unique in that the fresh produce and floral items displayed at these shows – many of which are quite delicate and have short shelf lives — require careful storage and handling. This necessitates detailed planning and execution in the careful removal of produce and floral at the end of each show day, meticulous storage of the items overnight — often at specific temperatures — and delivery of the items to each exhibitor before the show opens each morning.

“GES is honored to extend our partnership with PMA, one of the fastest growing exhibitions in North America,” said GES Executive Vice President, Chief Sales Officer — Exhibitions, Jeff Quade. “The powerful, more than 25-year partnership between GES and PMA has resulted in successful shows, and we look forward to working with PMA and its exhibitors to enhance the service GES provides, including budgeting tips and exhibiting trends.”

The 2010 PMA Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition will be held October 15 - 18 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The 2010 PMA Foodservice Conference & Exposition will take place July 30 - August 1 in Monterey, Calif. IAEE forges export trade agenda with U.S. Trade Representative

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Exhibitions and events that include products and services of interest to international buyers will significantly benefit from collaborative discussions yesterday between officials of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and leaders of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events.

IAEE logoIAEE Chairman Chris Meyer, CEM, CMP, Chairman-Elect Vinnie Polito and IAEE President Steven Hacker, CAE, met with Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Myesha Ward and Assistant U.S. Trade Representative, Office of Textiles Gail Strickler, to discuss a broad agenda of issues including a plan developed by IAEE designed to ensure that U.S. exhibitions and events play a significant role in the new National Export Initiative.

"It became immediately apparent," says Meyer, "that the national objective expressed by President Obama of doubling U.S. exports by 2015 is a shared objective with our industry. The events that we produce are the most logical places to look for new international buyers of U.S. goods and services."

IAEE urged the inclusion of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the new National Export Cabinet since that agency plays such a substantial role in determining who is permitted into the United States, and what exports are permissible in light of national security issues. [READ MORE]

Measure the intensity
of your exhibit traffic

E-advertising is often measured as a Cost Per Impression (CPI) or Cost Per Thousand Impressions (CPM). This is not a new technique, traditional marketers have been using something similar for ages.

Whether you advertise on television, radio, magazines, newspapers or billboards you will often look to CPI as your justification for the cost.

For example if you know that your advertisement will be seen by one million people and you are quoted a CPM of $10 your total advertising cost will be $10,000. The CPI then divides this number by 1,000 so that a $10 CPM equates to a $ .01 CPI.

Safety First

Czarnowski invites union workers to Attend Field Safety Training Program

CHICAGO, Ill. — Czarnowski, a leading exhibit and event company, is taking an unprecedented stance to advocate safety on the tradeshow floor. The company has decided to expand the reach of its successful Field Safety Program to include all union members who provide show labor in key convention cities across the country.

The unions have responded to the invitation very favorably. The first union-focused field safety session was conducted June 1 at Sign and Display Local 1175 in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Czarnowski‘This safety program is the first of its kind, developed specifically for us. It fills a critical void by striving to make show floor safety an essential and ongoing priority,” said Alan ‘Big Al’ Lichtman, Miami’s business representative for Sign and Display Local 1175. “We’re thrilled to be a part of it and we’re grateful Czarnowski is leading the charge to make it happen.”

The sole focus of the program is injury and accident prevention. Content for the course is based on research pointing to the most critical and common safety issues encountered on the show floor today. The program offers solutions to minimize, and ultimately eliminate, the potential for injury and accidents in the field. Course training includes the following topics: ladder safety, scaffolding safety, aerial lift safety, personal protection equipment and emergency action response planning.

“Czarnowski is a company that cares. As leaders in the industry, we believe that spearheading this field safety initiative is simply the right thing to do. We intend to invite and educate as many people as possible – union and non-union personnel are all welcome and encouraged to participate,” says John O’Shea, director of field operations for Czarnowski. “We hope this level of safety becomes the rule in our industry, rather than the exception. Until then, Czarnowski is happy to take the lead. ”

Czarnowski’s Field Safety Program was launched two years ago when they began requiring their own field employees to complete this comprehensive field safety regimen. Since then, 400 Czarnowski employees completed the Field Safety Program and Czarnowski saw related insurance claims plummet 80 percent.
