MC2 to unscramble trade show program obstacles

MC2 logoCHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y. — From budget restrictions to design challenges, trade show planning today can feel like trying to unscramble a Rubik’s cube. MC2 will address program planning conundrums with interactive presentations and by using EcoFlex, an environmentally friendly, cost effective rental solution for customized booths, at EXHIBITOR2009 at Booth No. 869 in Las Vegas from March 23 to 25.

By using components only from EcoFlex Exhibit System for booth design and structure, MC2 will demonstrate the system’s inherent flexibility and unique design features. The booth will also showcase the company’s comprehensive portfolio and extensive capabilities to unscramble various program planning obstacles and industry issues derived from the results of a survey issued earlier this month.

“As we see a shift from grandiose to practical trade show budgets, rental properties are an obvious solution. However, this often translates into limited options and less flexibility. We challenged ourselves to create a practical, yet customized, exhibit using only our eco-friendly rental system,” said Rob Murphy, chief marketing officer, MC2. “By constructing our booth with EcoFlex components, MC2 had the ability to build in unique design attributes and implement technology to reflect our booth’s theme, lower the environmental impact of our booth, and demonstrate how to reduce our booth investment.”

The company’s environmentally-friendly system features open panel frames constructed from 65 percent recycled aluminum in a wide range of sizes. A breakthrough in trade show panel design, the product relies only on its frame for structure allowing for a broad range of materials for panel infill from simple graphics, complex textiles, to Plexiglas, or stone.

MC2 specializes in design, production and management of integrated marketing programs including events, exhibits, permanent and mobile environments and executive briefing centers. With 10 locations throughout the United States and alliances around the world, the company serves customers such as Canon USA, Samsung Electronics, Michelin North America, Pioneer Electronics, Fuji, and Rubbermaid.

World of Asphalt and AGG1 ’09 strong attendance defies down economy

ORLANDO, Fla. — The just-concluded 2009 World of Asphalt Show & Conference and co-located AGG1 Aggregates Forum & Expo were an unqualified success, posting strong attendance numbers despite a down economy and travel restrictions by many companies. The shows were held March 9-12, 2009 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Asphalt florWith final registration numbers of 5,800, including 16 percent international, the co-location meant a big attendance boost for World of Asphalt, which had attracted about 3,650 to its last show, held in 2007. And, it provided a very strong start for the inaugural AGG1.

"The comments we heard from attendees were very positive, that the trade show floor was where they needed to be to keep in touch with what's happening in their industry segments," said Show Director Sara Truesdale Mooney. "We're very gratified by the response and recognition of our shows, and exhibitions in general, as a quality environment for networking and commerce."

Attendees came from more than 60 countries besides the United States, including all major world regions. Official delegations came from China, India, Mongolia and Russia. Nearly 70 percent of attendees hold key management roles in their companies.
Nearly 400 exhibitors took 85,900 net square feet of exhibit space at the shows to showcase their latest technology and products.

World of Asphalt had a record number of exhibitors, with an increase of nearly 10 percent compared to the last show, held in 2007.

Education was a vital component of the World of Asphalt and AGG1 show experience. Nearly 5,700 tickets were sold to attend the education sessions. Classrooms were packed and several sessions were sell-outs. Expanded education included a new AGG1 Academy and the co-location of the National Traffic Management and Work Zone Safety Conference hosted by ARTBA-TDF.
"These numbers clearly show the value and impact of industry partnerships such as World of Asphalt and AGG1. Attendees recognized the quality and depth of education and exhibits that the co-located shows offered," stated Richard Moore of Lehman-Roberts and World of Asphalt Chairman.

"The aggregates and asphalt industries are integral to each other, so the co-location of AGG1 and World of Asphalt gave attendees access to the whole spectrum of products and services 'from rock to road,' as we like to say," said Rick Feltes of Lafarge North America and NSSGA's AGG1 Management Committee Chairman.

World of Asphalt is owned by the National Asphalt Pavement Association along with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association. AGG1 is owned by the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers is show producer.

World of Asphalt and AGG1 will again co-locate in 2010 - February 15-18 - in Cincinnati, Ohio. Exhibit space sales are already underway and going well. For more information, and photos, visit the shows' Web sites: www.worldofasphalt.com or www.agg1.org

Positive mood at GDS and Global Shoes 2009

CHICAGO — GDS 2009, the International Event for Shoes & Accessories, and GLOBAL SHOES 2009 - leading trade show for sourcing, closed in Düsseldorf, Germany to predominantly positive results. According to preliminary counts, over 31,000 buyers came to the fairgrounds (approximately 2,000 visitors or 6% less than a year ago) and 6,200 of them also visited GLOBAL SHOES.  A total of 1,110 exhibitors from 38 countries presented the latest footwear and bag styles. At GDS, 1,870 collections were presented for the Autumn/Winter 2009/2010 season alongside trends for the current season.  In view of the current market situation exhibitors, visitors and the trade fair organizer Messe Düsseldorf all rated the results positively.

Almost every second visitor at GDS 2009 came from outside of Germany (from a total of 91 countries), with the majority arriving from the Benelux countries, Great Britain, Austria, Italy and France. With 60%, the participation of international visitors at GLOBAL SHOES 2009 was even higher: attendees were from 52 countries, with the Benelux countries, Greece, Poland, Spain and France as the leading represented foreign nations. According to a survey, 9 out of 10 visitors rated the trade fairs and the collections on display as positive to very positive and 85 percent stated that they had seen the latest trends in the industry at GDS.

"The quality of our visitors was very high. All important buyers were represented but with smaller teams. The atmosphere in the halls was very positive and characterized by constructive talks. The avid interest taken in our fashion shows and lectures was compelling evidence of the great demand for information retailers have at present," commented Kirstin Deutelmoser, Project Director of GDS and GLOBAL SHOES. Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, added: "Over the past year the situation in the international shoe business has significantly changed. In light of the current circumstances we can be more than satisfied with the outcome of the trade fair."

"GDS has shown that the sector needs a constant in difficult times, a constant that brings together retail and industry and facilitates effective and personal communication," explained Ralph Rieker, Chairman of the Central Federation of the German Shoe Industry (HDS). "And despite all the in-depth conversations and discussions, retailers did not fail to place orders in Düsseldorf. GDS has entirely fulfilled the expectations of the German shoe industry considering the overall economic climate. Three days of trade fair are now behind us and together we can build on it."

The next staging of GDS and GLOBAL SHOES will be held in Düsseldorf from Sept. 11-13, 2009.  For more information on visiting or exhibiting at GDS or GLOBAL SHOES 2009, visit the web site; Subscribe to the blog; or follow us on twitter at http://twitter.com/mdnachicago

RAMPBOSS-USA Takes Center Stage at National Corvette Museum

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A sapphire black Corvette ZR-1 Spyder, which made its debut during the 1991 North American International Auto Show, rests atop the first RAMPBOSS Vehicle Display System ever sold in North America, inside the cylindrical yellow dome of the National Corvette Museum here, the first museum dedicated to America’s favorite sports car.

This twist of firsts have come to rest atop the world’s most stylish and versatile vehicle display system first sold in 2005 to Les Stanford Chevrolet in Dearborn, Mich., one of the nation’s leading Corvette retailers. Stanford agreed to donate his RAMPBOSS to the museum last month.

“Nearly 32 months after I delivered it, the first RAMPBOSS display received a thorough makeover that included all the updates we’ve made to our product since then,” said RAMPBOSS President G. Todd Stoney. “A few weeks later and display ramp No. 1 is again a platform worthy of one of the classiest ’Vettes ever built. Having our first sold unit sitting center stage at the National Corvette Museum is one of my proudest professional moments since launching RAMPBOSS nearly three years ago, and we’ve had plenty of proud moments along the way.”

RAMPBOSS display systems are now in use at dealerships across North America and western Australia.  Both V1 and V2 models have been used at Detroit’s famed AutoRama, Ford World Headquarters under the new Shelby GT500, Super Bowl XL in Detroit and Super Bowl XLI in Miami, among others.  Many RAMPBOSS clients have immediately realized the portable display can pay for itself IF customers agree to rent the display and provide set-up/knock-down services to various automotive event organizers and party planners who are very enthusiastic about what the RAMPBOSS system brings to the party.

Other high-profile situations where the RAMPBOSS may have been spotted last year were held at the Nokia Theater in Fort Worth, Texas, where two Dale Earnhardt Jr. commemorative NASCAR’s were unveiled on the stage before 2,000 invited guests, two SEMA shows bolstering new product launches, and most recently played a major supporting role on center stage at the Detroit Opera House. The next scheduled “performance” for RAMPBOSS will be on the front porch of Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art on June 20, where it will again proudly elevate the new Lexus IS-F high-performance sedan.

Bob Hellmann, manager of Displays and Facilities for the Corvette Museum, called about 60 days ago to express interest in acquiring a new RAMPBOSS V1 for the museum. Hellmann, along with museum colleagues and resident Corvette enthusiasts, chose the ZR-1 Spyder from more than 65 other classic Corvettes — in the museum’s version of American Idol.

Les Stanford Chevrolet General Sales Manger Scott Montgomery said, “Mr. Stanford jumped at the chance to help the museum, and we all feel their like-new V1 will be a great asset, and very useful display tool for the museum.”

Stoney said he is humbled and flattered to have played a role in what amounts to another historic first in a long tradition of firsts for the Corvette brand.  “I smile every time I think about the hundreds of thousands of museum visitors over the coming years who will not only see the ZR-1 Spyder, but any other uniquely special Corvettes to eventually be featured atop our state-of-the-art display platform,” Stoney said.

Games in a trade show booth

By Barry Siskind

Visitors at a trade show quickly learn that there is simply too much information and too little time to absorb it all.  Often what peaks their interest is an exhibitor who moves away from pure information and gives this tired visitor a break by offering them some entertainment. We have all seen a plethora of games and contests that exhibitors have devised. It can be as simple as a putting green to some of the popular games like Guitar Hero or other X-box games.

So, the use of games has real value: it helps you stand out in the crowd of information clutter; it gives the visitor a well needed respite from the pressures of walking the show and it helps draw attention to your display.
