Las Vegas hosts most of ‘Fastest 50’ trade shows

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas continues to demonstrate why it is called the convention capital, hosting the most trade shows on Tradeshow Week magazine's recently released "TSW Fastest 50" list of the fastest growing shows in North America.

"Show managers will see growth if they bring their show to Las Vegas," said Chris Meyer, CEM, CMP, vice president of convention sales for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. "This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the resort partners and their commitment to the convention business in Las Vegas."

Las Vegas hosted 12 of the 50 fastest growing shows, according to the industry trade publication.  Las Vegas also hosted the most of the publication's "Tradeshow Week 200" largest trade shows.

"We have experienced tremendous success in hosting our show in Las Vegas, and we are thrilled to once again be one of Tradeshow Week's Fastest 50 growing shows," said Larry Schur, president and COO for the ABC Kids Expo. "ABC continued its success again this year, experiencing more growth, so we feel that we are a great fit with Las Vegas."

Trade shows moving to Las Vegas typically experience a 14 percent increase in attendance, and exhibitors can expect delegates to spend more hours on the trade show floor.  With non-stop service from approximately 130 North American cities, Las Vegas is also an accessible destination for exhibitors and delegates.

Freeman continues to expand
operations in Western Region

Investment in new facilities will provide additional support for long-term growth

DALLAS — Freeman will begin construction this fall on a custom-built warehouse and office facility in Las Vegas, totaling over 400,000 square feet.  In addition, Freeman has relocated its Reno branch to a larger 90,000 square foot facility.

"We have been fortunate to have experienced a 50 percent growth in the Western region during the past three years, and anticipate additional growth in this region in coming years for Freeman," commented Steve Hagstette,   senior vice president for Freeman in Nevada. Freeman has continued to add events to its Las Vegas schedule, including the National Association of Broadcasters in 2008, and now produces over 600 trade shows and other events annually in the city. Freeman opened the Las Vegas office in 1992.

The new Las Vegas facility will allow Freeman to consolidate several facilities into one 412,000 sq. ft. building, located off Sunset and Rainbow. In addition, Freeman has added five acres of marshalling yard space to its local offices. The new facility is scheduled for completion in fall 2009. United Construction has been selected as the local general contractor for the project.

Freeman's Reno branch has continued to be an integral part of that city's exposition and event business as well as serving tradeshows and events in Salt Lake City and Sacramento since the brand opening in 1998. The latest growth for the company takes Reno from its previous 60,000 sq. ft. facility to a 90,000 sq. ft. building which will enable them to provide additional storage and production services for the Reno/Sparks convention industry. Their new facility is located at 850 Spice Island Drive, Sparks, NV  89431.

"We feel it is important to make the long-term investments in our company's infrastructure that will ensure we continue to provide the best possible service and depth of resources to all our clients in the future," Hagstette said.

Groundbreak
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Clark County Fire Department broke ground on a new fire station on the Las Vegas Convention Center campus.  Turning the first dirt (from left to right) are Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the LVCVA; Clark County Fire Chief Steve Smith; Clark County Commission Chair and LVCVA Board member Rory Reid; and Las Vegas Mayor and LVCVA Board Chairman Oscar B. Goodman.

LVCVA, CCFD break ground on new fire station

Station to Benefit Convention Center, Neighborhood, Strip

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and Clark County Fire Department joined in breaking ground today on a new fire station, which will be located on the Las Vegas Convention Center campus.

“Through our Master Plan Enhancement Program, we have been able to develop some great community partnerships that are benefiting both our visitors and the community,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the LVCVA. “This is another great example of the benefit our visitor-paid room tax provides to our community as a whole.”

The new Fire Station #33 will provide an increased ability for the fire department to serve the surrounding neighborhood, the convention center and the north end of the tourism corridor.

“This partnership allows us to improve our emergency response to the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip,” Clark County Fire Chief Steve Smith said. “This facility is greatly needed in this neighborhood, especially with the tremendous growth we’ve seen in the resort corridor.”

The new fire station, a partnership between the LVCVA, Clark County and the fire department, will be 14,000 square feet, larger than other stations, due to the construction of a fourth bay for vehicles, which will accommodate future development.

Clark County is funding the $5.3 million facility and leasing the property from the LVCVA for $1 per year. The first two trucks at the station will be a specialized engine equipped to handle chemical, biological and radiological hazards and a paramedic rescue.  There will also be an area designated for fire prevention personnel.

The new fire station is a part of the LVCVA’s $890 million Master Plan Enhancement Program that will provide an overall facelift to the Las Vegas Convention Center.  The Enhancement Program will provide a building-wide renovation and upgrade critical infrastructure; add a new meeting room concourse to the South Hall; add a new grand concourse along Paradise Road that will connect all three halls and provide an unmistakable visual entrance to the facility.  The program also includes a new Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department area command center at the northwest corner of Sierra Vista Drive and Swenson Street.

Clark County is a dynamic and innovative organization dedicated to providing top-quality service with integrity, respect and accountability. With jurisdiction over the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and covering an area the size of New Jersey, Clark is the nation’s 15th-largest county and provides extensive regional services to more than 2 million citizens and 44 million visitors a year. Included are the nation’s seventh-busiest airport, air quality compliance, social services and the state’s largest public hospital, University Medical Center. The county also provides municipal services that are traditionally provided by cities to almost 900,000 residents in the unincorporated area. Those include fire protection, roads and other public works, parks and recreation, and planning and development.

Positive response to Newcast 2009

Trade fair benefits from the economy’s high-flyers in the castings sector / great interest in the “new” NEWCAST

Newcast_logoDÜSSELDORF, Germany — Just a few weeks ago the exhibitor invitations were mailed for the forthcoming NEWCAST from 23 to 25 June 2009. Since then new registrations have been arriving daily from exhibitors all over the world. The leaders here are in particular German foundries, such as Claas Guss, Harz Guss Zorge or Albert Handtmann Metallgusswerk.

They are benefiting from the current highly upbeat mood in the casting sector and seizing the opportunity to put on an optimum presentation. The response to the newly created “Model and Mould Making” theme park at NEWCAST is great and already taking firm shape.

But NEWCAST 2009 is not only offering foundries and tool and die makers an ideal platform. Next year, in the NEWPART Innovation Parc in connection with the International Trade Fair for Precision Castings, forgings and sintered parts will also be shown for the first time. Here too, Messe Düsseldorf has already received numerous registrations from all over the world, for example from casters in Japan, Pilsen Steel from the Czech Republic or Edwards from Germany.

Tailor-made stand concepts

Due to the different company sizes in the casting sector, for the 3rd NEWCAST Messe Düsseldorf is focussing special attention on scalable stand concepts. In this connection, in addition to the large stand spaces with the “Technology in casting” forum, smaller companies in particular have the possibility of presenting themselves with individual cast parts. The bookable spaces in the forum are up to 15 square metres in size and produce a diverse special show when combined.

Research institutes and facilities along with universities can locate in the “Street of sciences”, and together with the corresponding neighbourhood, provide the visitors to NEWCAST with concentrated information on research and teaching. For the first time there is a joint stand especially for young innovative companies from Germany, which is being subsidized by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie  - BMWi).

Manufacturers of steel and non-ferrous metals (NF) are at home in the Metals Plaza, a forum for the raw materials and metals trade as well as logistics and pre-processing, which is shifting from the International Metallurgy Fair METEC to NEWCAST.

Companies, which are still interested in participating at NEWCAST and the NEWPART Innovation Park, can register directly on the Internet at www.newcast.de

The questions that bother exhibitors

By Barry Siskind

I’m lucky in many ways. Each year I get to meet thousands of people live or on the internet. What they all have in common is their desire to get more from their exhibit investment.

When I’m asked questions I keep them in a file and every once an awhile I get a chance to clean the file out and start over again.

So, here are four recurring questions I’ve been asked many times during the past year. I hope some of these answers are helpful.
