IAEE warns exhibitors about show directory offer

DALLAS — The International Association of Exhibitions and Events has issued a warning to exhibitors planning to participate in EXPO! EXPO!, to be held December 9-11 in Miami Beach, Fla, about a company called Expo-Guide based in Mexico. IAEE reports the company has contacted many EXPO! EXPO! exhibitors regarding a free directory listing offer.

The fine print, however, according to IAEE, shows that the contract is actually an insertion order and companies will be billed several thousand dollars.

Steven Hacker, President of IAEE, has written to the company expressing his displeasure and requesting that the show's exhibitors not be contacted. He has also sent a request to the show's exhibitors to forward any solicitations from the company to IAEE.

Nomadic Display reinforces commitment to green practices with new fabrics

SPRINGFIELD, Va. — For Nomadic Display, a world leader in portable and modular display solutions, “going green” is nothing new. But the company doesn’t rest on its laurels—Nomadic Display is committed to continue to integrate new green practices and materials into every aspect of its business.

Nomadic DisplayNomadic Display’s most recent green initiative is to offer Eco-fi fabric, which contains polyester constructed from 100 percent certified, post-consumer plastic bottles. Because Eco-fi fabric is currently available in a limited color palette Nomadic will continue to seek additional sustainable fabrics to add to its offerings.

“At Nomadic Display, our policy is to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle,” said Nomadic Displays President Pat Goeke. "Recycled products are incorporated whenever possible and leftover fabric scraps get a second life as packaging fillers. All cardboard used in packaging is biodegradable. Aluminum, acrylic and steel scrap materials are recycled."

In September 2006, Nomadic Display began reducing its use of solvent-based adhesives, a known air pollutant. It uses water-soluble inks for printing graphics. Since 1975, the company has used 100 percent recyclable core components—from its aluminum frames to polyethylene cases—it even brands its Rolluxe cases with the universal recycling symbol. The MDF boards used are made from a blend of pre-consumer scrap wood and post-consumer recycled paper materials.

“Nomadic Display continually analyzes its internal processes to eliminate waste and improve efficiencies,” says Goeke.  Currently, the company is proactively working to eliminate paper from its transactions. Its manufacturing facility has installed timers to reduce electricity use from lighting, as well as motion-sensing switches to lower high-energy consuming production processes.

Colorado Company to support neighboring
tornado victims

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Less than ten miles from the headquarters of Otter Products, LLC., tornadoes instantaneously turned lives upside down. Homes, vehicles, and belongings were lost, hundreds were injured and one man even lost his life. To help a nearby family or families rebuild after the devastation, OtterBox announces they will donate 10 percent of online proceeds from sales in June 2008.

Talking to people around town and at the office after the storm, it was evident the close connections to those afflicted by the tornadoes.

“We are looking for a family or families through the Red Cross, churches and other organizations to offer our assistance to,” said Curt Richardson, CEO of Otter Products, LLC. “The OtterBox team is a family and we want to pull together to offer what resources we can to help those who have lost so much.”

Whether making a monetary donation or going to assist in these areas, OtterBox employees are ready for the challenge.

“So many people along the Colorado Front Range fell victim to these destructive tornadoes and OtterBox wants to do everything we can to help,” said Richardson. “As part of these communities we feel especially inclined to offer our support.”

Visit www.otterbox.com to “Donate Now” to the American Red Cross to help tornado victims or purchase online during the month of June and 10 percent of purchases will go to help a family or families in need.

Crown Moving Co. makes historical move

United Agent Moves Renowned Horner Collection

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Crown Moving Company, Vancouver, Wash., an agent for United Van Lines, may be based in the Northwest, but the agency never thought a moose would be among their cargo! When the Benton County Historical Museum called Crown for their relocation, a large, taxidermied moose was one of many historical items included in the move.

"Moving the Horner Collection from the basement of the Gill Coliseum on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis, Ore., was a task that required specialized knowledge and care of artifacts, and the Crown team accomplished that task with skill and a very professional demeanor," said Irene Zenev, executive director of the Benton County Historical Museum.

In all, the move took eight days and more than 600 man-hours. Part of the "specialized care" that Zenev spoke of was the successful removal and reattachment of the moose's antlers to allow the animal to fit through the door.

"I was impressed by the team's cooperation among themselves and with the museum staff," Zenev said. "They were positive and upbeat. Crown kept us informed of the progress of the move, adapted readily to any changes that needed to take place, and accomplished the move in a timely manner."

SHK Moscow 2008 presented opportunities
in Russian growth market

CHICAGO — A total of 315 exhibitors from 23 countries showcased their innovations in the fields of heating technology, air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration technology, building technology and sanitation technology to 12,500 visitors at the recent staging of SHK MOSCOW.

SHK logoThe organizers Messe Düsseldorf and its subsidiary Messe Düsseldorf Moscow placed special emphasis on the full spectrum of renewable energy. A total of 16 international companies focused exclusively on innovations dedicated to environmentally friendly technologies. Well-known companies such as Schüco, DeDietrich and Bosch unveiled their latest ideas for this sector.

The special exhibition “renewables made in Germany" by the German Energy Agency (dena) complemented these exhibits. Alternative forms of energy such as solar power and heat pumps are very much in demand on the Russian market due to rising electricity prices and declining state subsidies.

With its renowned international exhibitors and comprehensive program, SHK MOSCOW once again confirmed its position as the top industrial and technology trade fair for this sector in the Russian Federation. The exhibits were arranged according to product categories: in Hall 7, manufacturers presented boilers, burners, measuring and control technology and all aspects of renewable energy. Hall 3 featured pipes, fittings, water treatment, pump technology and heating accessories. The Hall Forum was the showcase for air-conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration technology.

SHK MOSCOW 2008 featured a large number of country group exhibits, including China, Finland, Italy and Germany. A quarter of the 215,200 square feet of gross exhibition space was occupied by German companies alone (including renowned companies such as Bosch Thermotechnik, Buderus, Vaillant, Viessmann and Weishaupt).

The trade fair was rounded out by a symposium on the subject “Modern Energy Efficient HVAC Systems and Climate Control” coordinated by the Russian partner association ABOK and the Association of the European Heating Industry (EHI) with the support of Messe Düsseldorf.

Messe Düsseldorf’s partner, the German Association for the Building, Energy and Environmental Technology Industry (BDH), emphasized the significance of the Russian market for its industry. General Executive Manager Andreas Lücke commented: “In the Russian Federation, energy efficiency of buildings is becoming a major topic since energy prices are rising fast. Russian investors are getting more and more interested in state-of-the-art heating technology including systems for renewable energies. SHK MOSCOW offers them a perfect overview of these solutions.”

The next SHK MOSCOW is scheduled for May 26–29, 2009. For further information on visiting or exhibiting at SHK MOSCOW 2009, contact Messe Düsseldorf North America, 150 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2920, Chicago, IL 60601. EXHIBIT EXPERTISE

Siskind

Evaluating your exhibit performance

By Barry Siskind

In a time when corporations and governments are faced with doing more with less marketing resources, knowing that your exhibit program is achieving a positive ROI or ROO is crucial.

When you examine your results you want to be sure you have answered the  Evaluation question, “How do we know if our exhibit program is doing what it is suppose to do?”

Simple measurement does not tell you the whole story. For example if you set your objectives too low, meeting them does not really prove anything. If you set them too high then missing them also leaves you with an information shortfall. In either case do you have enough information on how to improve your performance in the future.
