I hope everyone has a great Earth Day week where ever you may be.
It seems these days that no matter where you look or what you read, you will see a message to help “Green” your trade show, personal life or working environment. I am all for a better world, cleaner water and recyclable exhibits.
I do what I can to help reduce waste but I know it is never enough. While walking my dogs on weekends I try to pick up discarded aluminum cans along the way and toss them into my growing pile inside my garage. It may be no more than a dime worth of aluminum, but I feel better for pick up cans while getting a little exercise with my two canine buddies. After a month or so it adds up and eventually I make a trip to my local recycling center.
I seem to be getting more e-mail about companies that are Going Green or continue Being Green and it's good to read about conventions centers reducing waste.
Today I received an e-mail from Nimlok, a top display and trade show exhibit company.
“’Going green’ is much more than a trend at Nimlok,” said Simon Perutz, president of Nimlok. “It’s our long-standing commitment to a business philosophy that is at the core of everything we have done for the last 37 years and what we will continue to do in the future.”
In the US, and through its sister company near London, Nimlok, has set the pace in the exhibit industry by producing sustainable display and exhibit solutions. Reusability, use of recyclable content, reduction of harmful compounds and waste, and a system-wide approach to environmental responsibility underscore Nimlok’s long-standing comprehensive commitment to green concerns, according to the press release.
In 2007, Nimlok initiated an exhibit recycling program, designed to keep old exhibits out of landfill sites. At the end of an exhibit’s life, clients are invited to return it to Nimlok. Nimlok will then sort the components by content and return them to the recycle stream, at no additional cost to its clients. It is yet another facet of the total exhibiting solution that Nimlok provides.
Nimlok has also developed a “green” logo that is featured on all their green products, such as Velocity. A combination of the Nimlok logo and a symbol of the recycling stream, it makes the statement: Exhibiting Waste Reduction Since 1970. To read more about Nimlok efforts, click here.
Recently, Sherwin-Williams unveiled a green trade show booth that displays products and environmental initiatives.
Sherwin-Williams, a leading provider of green products in the coatings industry, has taken its commitment a step further by unveiling an environmentally preferable trade show booth. The display, developed in collaboration with Opus Design, showcases the company’s green products and environmental initiatives through innovative construction. Click here to read more.
From what I can tell, there are plenty of other companies doing their part to help the environment. Too many to mention in this space but send us your Green news and we’ll do our best to share it with our readers.

SPI, Freeman sign official agreement
for NPE2009 Show
DALLAS and WASHINGTON, D.C. — Executives with The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. and Freeman have formally signed the agreement for Freeman to act as official service contractor for the NPE2009 international plastics exposition.
Although the agreement was announced earlier during an international event held by SPI, the formal announcement and signing took place during a very successful space drawing event recently held for exhibiting companies, and produced by Freeman.
A triennial event, NPE2009 will take place June 22-26, 2009 at Chicago's McCormick Place. In 2006, the event spanned over 942,000 net sq. feet of exhibit space, with over 1,838 exhibiting companies from around the globe, and drew over 64,000 attendees. It ranked as the 12th largest tradeshow held in the U.S., according to Tradeshow Week's Tradeshow 200.

ASI launches Fall Holiday Expo in Las Vegas
TREVOSE, Pa. — Advertising Specialty Institute, a media and marketing organization in the promotional products industry, announced the fall 2009 launch of the ASI Holiday Expo, the industry’s first and only national show focused on products for the important fall and holiday selling seasons.
The ASI Holiday Expo will be limited to no more than 400 booths, and suppliers invited to exhibit will be required to have four or more stars in the ASI Supplier Rating System or be nominated by distributors.
This is the first time in the history of the industry that a national show's exhibitor list has been limited based on ratings by distributors.
“As we celebrate the 10th year of the ASI Show in Las Vegas, we decided it was time to reflect on ways we could continue to provide an event that maximizes the return on investment suppliers and distributors expect,” said Timothy M. Andrews, president and chief executive of ASI and president of ASI Show. “We’ve been conducting research for nearly two years, and two things stand out: Suppliers now launch products year-round, not just once a year, and, second, distributors welcome the idea of an event that allows them to load up on fresh ideas and new products as they enter the vital fourth quarter – the largest quarter of the year in sales.”
Exhibits, education and hotel rooms for the Holiday Expo will be in a single facility, fostering a sense of community, networking, learning and selling. The event will feature educational opportunities based on three themes: wearables, stitches and the corporate gift conference.
“For the ASI Holiday Expo, which will replace the former ASI Show in Las Vegas, we’re also discussing a number of shows and seminars that might co-locate with us in Las Vegas,” Andrews said. “We’re evaluating those now and expect to make final decisions shortly.”
Dates at two venues are currently being negotiated and final dates for the Holiday Expo will be announced in the next several weeks.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Natural Products Association today announced a new partnership with Penton Media, Inc. aimed at expanding its annual trade show, Natural MarketPlace. Under the agreement, Penton will acquire certain assets related to the show from the Natural Products Association, and Penton's New Hope Natural Media Group will manage the show in partnership with the association, beginning in 2009. This year's 71st annual edition of Natural MarketPlace will take place July 17-19 in Las Vegas, Nev.
The show brings together retailers, suppliers, manufacturers and other industry leaders to discuss industry trends, explore business opportunities, and exchange information.
"We're excited about this new arrangement because it will keep our trade show growing stronger and let us get back to the work we do best: serving our members. This is a sign of a mature industry and reflects the trend in association trade show management these days, which is to bring in the professionals with the depth, breadth and experience to help a show reach its potential," said David Seckman, executive director and CEO of the Natural Products Association.
"We look forward to working with the NPA to make Natural MarketPlace even more successful for exhibitors and attendees," said Fred Linder, senior vice president of Penton Media.
"Another factor in this decision was how to keep membership dues at a minimum while keeping our quality of service at a premium, and a growing trade show is key to that equation. We're convinced that this arrangement will offer us the best return on our investment and give us the resources we need to keep the Natural Products Association as the industry leader," added Seckman.
